BSTAI Awards

A Happy New Year - and sincere Happy New Decade - to you.

My first engagement of the New Year was to speak and present the Business Studies Achievement awards at the annual Business Studies Teachers' Association of Ireland earlier this afternoon in Dublin,  sponsored by the Irish Bankers Federation.

These are annual awards presented for the national best results in certain Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate examinations.  The IBF have been sponsoring the awards for at least 20 years, apparently.

The winners this year,  and present today in Dublin despite the challenging weather conditions,  were:

  • LC Accounting: Simon Doran, Gorey Community School, Gorey, Co. Wexford. Teacher Marie O'Donohue
  • LC Economics: Rebecca Bourke, Villiers School, North Circular Road, Limerick. Teacher Maeve O'Brien
  • LC Business: Laraine Creed, An Gairm Scoil Ghobnatan, Bailie Bhuirne, Maigh Cromtha. Teacher Sinead Ni Chathasaigh
  • JC Business Studies: Rachel O'Sullivan, Ardscoil Phobal, Bheanntrai, Co. Cork. Teacher Imelda Mulhall

I was delighted to meet the winners,  their families,  and the teachers involved.   Also I met with Mary O'Sullivan from the BSTAI,   and Felix O'Regan from the IBF.

I had not come across the BSTAI before,  and they appear to be an excellent national resource for secondary school teachers in the business studies area.   It obviously set me thinking..... :-)
