I had the immense pleasure of attending the Cork Region Annual Dinner this evening, at the Maryborough Hotel.
About 130 people attended. The evening was hosted by Kevin Murray, Chair of the Cork Region. I was delighted that the Minister of Education and Science, Batt O'Keefe, attended: chatting over dinner, he expressed admiration, support and appreciation for our recent report on mathematics and science education.
We were also honoured by the Mayor of the County of Cork, Derry Canty; and Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork City Laura McGonigle.
I was also delighted to meet the retired RTE marine journalist, Tom McSweeney, who gave a passionate "call to arms" on the continued importance of the maritime industry and the role of maritime and fisheries in our economic recovery.
